What you can expect

Embark on the Tibetan Cultural Tour in Pokhara, guided by the passionate and knowledgeable Mr. Thupten Gyatso, a Tibetan native deeply rooted in the region. This unique experience takes you to Tibetan refugee settlements in Pokhara, offering an immersive educational and cultural journey. Beyond ordinary sightseeing, you’ll gain a profound understanding of Tibetan culture, religion, and the lives of Tibetan refugees in Nepal.

Tour Itineraries:

  • Depending on the sunrise time, we will drive early in the morning to Sarangkot hill to witness the beautiful sunrise and enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountains. Please note that weather conditions may affect visibility.

  • Explore two different Tibetan refugee settlements near Pokhara valley to understand how the Tibetan people are living in Nepal and how well they have kept their Tibetan language, identity, and rich Buddhist culture intact in Nepal.

  • We will visit a Buddhist monastery but can’t attend the morning group prayer chanting. Because the sunrise and morning prayer chanting is at the same time.

  • Enjoy a Tibetan Breakfast: Experience the flavours of Tibet with a traditional breakfast at a local Tibetan family home. Indulge in salted butter tea, Tsampa(roasted barley flour), and Tibetan bread with honey, butter, and peanut butter. Our guide, Mr. Thupten, will enlighten you about Tibetan cuisine and the way of life in the refugee settlements.

  • Interact with a young Buddhist monk to gain more insights into their Monastic lifestyle, studies and daily activities in the monastery.

  • You will also learn the meanings of different Buddhist signs and symbols that are so important in their daily life. Such as prayer wheels, prayer flags, stupas, etc.

  • Visit a carpet workshop to see how Tibetan carpets are made by hand. Our tour guide Mr. Thupten, will take you through the process, explaining each step in detail.

  • Later visit the carpet showroom to explore a variety of Tibetan carpets with unique designs and colours.

  • In the photo gallery, you will explore the history of Tibetan refugees and view images depicting their settlement in the early 1960s. These pictures highlight how the Tibetan people have successfully preserved their language, culture, and identity despite living in exile for an extended period of time.

  • Meet a Tibetan Doctor: Gain insights into the Tibetan medical system, treatments, and diagnosis during a meeting with a Tibetan doctor. The doctor's consultation, including pulse reading, is included. If interested, you can purchase medicines separately.

  • Enjoy authentic Tibetan lunch in one of the Tibetan restaurants and taste Tibetan Momos and Thenthuk, a nourishing soup with freshly kneaded dough, meat and vegetables. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are available. Mr. Thupten will enlighten about Tibetan cuisine.

A rich and immersive experience into Tibetan culture awaits!
