Day 1:
After breakfast in the morning, meet your driver/guide at your hotel in Kigali and set off for Akagera National Park. Drive for around 2.5 hours admiring the beautiful scenery during the journey. Feel free to ask the guide to make a stopover at any point to take photos. When you arrive at the park, take a short game drive then proceed to your accommodation to check-in. After lunch, take a boat trip on Lake Ihema to watch hippos and crocodiles basking in the water or by the shores. Stay overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 2:
After breakfast at the lodge, bid Akagera National Park farewell and return to Kigali. Visit the Genocide Memorial Centre - the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the genocide against the Tutsi. After lunch, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park - located 80 km from Kigali and approximately a 2-hour drive away. When you arrive, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in Rwanda is a centre for gorilla conservation and scientific research. . Stay overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
Day 3:
Wake up for an early morning breakfast and get ready to leave your lodge at 6:30 AM for the gorilla trekking. First, read to the park headquarters where you will be allocated a guide and briefed before heading into the forest. Trek to 1 of the 10 habituated gorilla families in Rwanda on this exclusive tour; only 8 people are able to trek each gorilla family. Travel through the forest in the company of your experienced ranger while searching for the mountain gorillas. It may take between 2 to 6 hours to locate these great apes, depending on their movement across up to 40 km of territory. The park rangers and guides will clear the way and assist you through the forest. Once a gorilla group is located, spend an hour with them as they move, feed, play and rest. Experience sitting with the animals - one of the most amazing and unique wildlife encounters you will ever have. Finally, transfer back to your hotel in Kigali where your tour concludes.
