Maguey or Agave is a native plant from Mexico, it was also used to make mats, clothing, rope, paper & nutimental drink named pulque.

Mayahuel was the aztec goddess of Maguey, as well one of the protectors of fertility. In 1996 Mexico signed an international agreement for all countries to recognise Tequila as a product from only 5 regions of Mexico and in 1997 the European Union signed the Tequila Trade accord, recognizing Mexico as the sole producer of Tequila.
