Leave Puerto Madryn and head south-west to the Florentino Ameghino Dam. Opened in 1963 to control the flooding of the Chubut River and to generate electricity for the region, the 225-meter Florentino Ameghino Dam turned the area into an oasis of vegetation and peace, surrounded by red volcanic rocks and canyons.

Head through the tunnels inside the dam with your guide. At the top of the dam, you will be able to admire a striking emerald lake on one side, and on the other, the red canyon through which the Chubut river flows.

Next, visit the picturesque settlement of Villa Dique Florentino Ameghino. This tiny village of 200 inhabitants sits on the lakes of the dike. Walk around the quaint streets and enjoy fee time to try the delicious regional dish of Patagonian lamb. You will then return to the vehicle to be dropped back to your hotel in Puerto Madryn.
