What you can expect

A visit to some of the most historic sites in central Vietnam gives you a chance to admire the beauty and timeless charm that surrounds them. From the modern metropolis of Da Nang to the Nguyen dynasty citadel in Hue, you get a day full of unique and spectacular sights.

In the morning, we pick up at your hotel 8AM then head to the Marble Mountains, a collection of Buddhist sanctuaries atop limestone and marble hills named for the 5 traditional elements of the universe. Learn about the ancient Champa kingdom at the village of Hoa Hai, famous today for its stone carvings, or a museum that showcases the region's history.

After lunch at a local restaurant, your guide takes you to the historic Hai Van Pass for a look at the grand scenery on the historic border between the Champa and Dai Viet kingdoms. When you arrive in Hue, get an up-close look at the former seat of power for the Nguyen dynasty's emperors as you visit the massive 19th-century citadel of the Imperial City.

Once you've had some time to explore the complex of museums, gardens, and lakes around the Imperial City, a short drive takes you to a lush river valley that holds 7 imperial tombs. Visit the Tomb of Tu Duc, a 19th-century emperor who saw the longest reign of any Nguyen dynasty ruler, before you set out for the return trip to your hotel around 18:30
