What you can expect

Look into Mexico's Colonial past with this tour of historic Puebla City and the Cuexcomate geyser. See the city's 16th century highlights, including Puebla Cathedral and a handcraft market, before visiting what's known as the “smallest volcano in the world.”

Your day begins with a drive out of Mexico City to Puebla, the 4th-largest in Mexico. Founded in 1531, the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its Colonial architecture and significance. Your guide takes you on a walking tour through its historic centre, starting from Zocalo Square, the central plaza around which the city was built.

Also see the Rosary Chapel in Santo Domingo church and marvel at its gold leaf-covered details. Your guide takes you to one of the handcraft markets in town to see the hand-painted Talavera pottery. .

Then, travel to a humble park in the city to see Cuexcomate, known as “smallest volcano in the world,” Cuexcomate is a 43-foot (13-m) sinter cone formed around a now-inactive geyser. While not a real volcano, the cone features a crater that extends 56 feet (17 m) deep that visitors can walk down into.

After that, you will go to Cholula - an ancient Indian city glorified by a pyramid of Toltec civilisation, which is considered one of the largest pyramids in the world. At the top of the pyramid was built the church of the Blessed Virgin Comforter. It is believed that the city of Cholula was once an important political and ceremonial centre of Mesoamerica.
