Overview

The two waterfalls we visit are spectacular. The first, Hira Falls, is just a quarter mile (400 metre) hike from the car park. From there we hike to the even more dramatic Yobai Falls, feeling the splash of cool water. The return hike is only one mile (1.5 km) but the trail is rocky and steep, so a reasonable degree of fitness of required. From there we go to the shore of Lake Biwa where we ride kayaks, swim, or hang out on the beach. This tour is perfect for travellers who want to escape the crowds and heat of Kyoto and Osaka and enjoy nature.

After a short drive of 5-10 minutes from Kita-Komatsu train station, we will start with a very short hike of .25 km (312 steps), up a steep, rocky path, to view the beautiful Hira Waterfall. From there we will hike .7 km (875 steps) to view the even more breathtaking Yobai Falls, enjoying the scenery and cool spray. We will then return to the car park. The return hike is 1.4 km (1750 steps), much up a steep, rocky path. The hike is not wheelchair accessible.
