Overview

This is the perfect tour for die-hard Doctor Who fans! Starting in the morning with the Doctor Who Walking Tour of Cardiff which takes in Cardiff's National Museum, City Centre, and Castle after a brief stop for lunch (where you will also be able to explore Cardiff Castle) we will then travel to the filming locations of Farringham Village, Leadworth, and Bad Wolf Bay before finishing in Cardiff Bay. Whilst exploring these filming locations you will uncover the history and importance of the filming locations that you are visiting, how these locations were used in various episodes, how filming was managed, and even some behind the scenes secrets!

During the tour, we will visit the famous Bad Wolf Bay, which is approximately an hour's drive from Cardiff. Because of the tide, we will require some flexibility in the itinerary in order to travel to and from Bad Wolf Bay, but all our planned locations will be visited during the tour.

Perhaps most notable for its appearance in New Earth, the Wales Millennium Centre has also been seen in "The Sounds of Drums", "The Girl Who Waited" and "Vincent and the Doctor".

The National Assembly for Wales, known as the Senedd, is the home of Welsh devolved democracy. Once through security, you will learn how this government building has been used in Doctor Who and how the James Bond film 'Spectre' was refused filming access.
Roald Dahl Plass (Pass by)
Roald Dahl Plass is named after the famous children's author and son of the city of Cardiff. Educated at Llandaff Cathedral School he is just one of the famous Welsh cultural icons whose lives are celebrated throughout the city of Cardiff. Roald Dahl Plass' most iconic feature is the Water Tower, a water fountain built by Nicholas Hare Architects and the sculptor William Pye which many people recognise as one of the entrances to the Torchwood Hub. After exploring Roald Dahl Plass, your guide will suggest nearby places to eat including a fantastic Italian restaurant used in the filing of "Boomtown". This will give you a chance to explore Cardiff Bay, and one of its eateries before continuing on the next part of our tour.
Portland House
  • 10m
Portland House is the former site of the Cardiff Dock branch of the National Provincial Bank which later became National Westminster Bank. Said to be where the first Million Pound Cheque was cashed, Portland House is seen in the hugely popular Doctor Who episode "Blink" as the Police station where Sally Sparrow reports her friend Kathy Nightingale missing.
The Coal Exchange Hotel (Pass by)
The Exchange Hotel is the former Coal Exchange in Cardiff. Famous for being where the first 1 Million Pound deal, was agreed in 1904 the area surrounding it is full of Doctor Who filming locations. Used in episodes such as "Rise of the Cybermen" and "The Lie of the Land" to name a few, whilst here your guide will explain how the Doctor Who team manage to film in such a public location without being mobbed by Whovians. After leaving Cardiff Bay, we will drive through the Butetown Tunnel, which was used in both "The Planet of the Dead" and "Spyfall Part One & Two".
St Fagans National Museum of History
  • 1h
As part of the tour, we will visit Wales' most popular tourist attraction which is home to numerous historic buildings that have been conserved through their reconstruction at St Fagan's Museum. Several of these buildings have appeared in a popular Tenth Doctor episode, and more recently structures at St Fagins have appeared in the season 12 finale episodes "Ascension of the Cybermen" and "The Timeless Children". St Fagan's is also where we will take a lunch break either in their excellent cafe or, if prefered customers may bring their own packed lunch or picnic to enjoy within the grounds.

During the tour, we will visit Southerndown which has appeared throughout Doctor Who but is most famously Bad Wolf Bay. The time that we visit will depend on the tide times and the time of year.
Llandaff Cathedral
  • 30m
Llandaff is one of the most important Christian sites in Wales. Famous for its stunning Cathedral that was heavily damaged by a German landmine during the Second World War, this area of Cardiff is where the author Roald Dahl grew up. As we drive through this quaint area of Cardiff your guide will point out the Cathedral School, where the young Roald Dahl studied, and the site of Mrs Pratchett’s sweet shop on Llandaff’s High Street which is said to have inspired several of Dahl's stories including Mathilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Once at Llandaff Cathedral, your guide will point out where scenes from "Vincent and the Doctor", "The Eleventh Hour", and "Family of Blood" where filmed and discuss how Wales can double up as France, England, and so many other International destinations without even getting on a plane!
