It is said that Greeks in rural areas live longer thanks to daily working physical activities, consuming lots of olive oil paired with fresh non- processed food and and slow paced life for low stress. Our tour begins with a drive inland Naxos, to the unspoiled -off the beaten track- tiny village of Kaloxylos where time stands still… On the way, while driving through the oldest olive grove of the island with over 800 years old olive trees, we discuss about food and the tastes of Naxos. On arriving, we follow picturesque alleyways leading to a 100 year old olive press factory. Connect with our local centuries -old local tradition, taste local olive products and learn about olive pressing techniques. Then, just as the Greeks do, enjoy sitting outdoors for a glass of local wine and more local “farm-to table” finger food including our famous Naxian cheese. Continue with a walk through the village to reach the olive grove fields and hike through a peaceful natural environment where we discuss all about the historic presence of olive trees on the island and the current techniques of harvesting. Learn about our “liquid gold” and its nutritional benefits. Our nature walk will lead us to Chalki village, quaint old capital of Naxos where we enjoy a memorable Mediterranean gastronomy experience with traditional dishes, more local wine and homemade desert. End our revitalising morning with a visit to the over 120 years old- family liquor distillery and savour our local digestive drink!
