What you can expect

Mönchengladbach is a city of contrasts that successfully combines urban sophistication with rural charm. Whether it is town history, architecture, art, culture, sport, nature, cuisine or shopping – the city will surprise you with its variety of options. Also, if you are a football fan you probably know that Mönchengladbach has a long football tradition, with Borussia Mönchengladbach as one of Germany’s best-known teams. Besides sports, parks and woodlands which this city holds, it also hosts art and culture, with significant architectural monuments. This city is Germany’s soft drink capital, being the headquarters of many companies like Valensina, Refresco, Oettinger Brauerei, and even Coca-Cola, which has had their largest production line in Europe in this town since 2018. Others have joined the party, like Zalando, Esprit, Adidas, L’Oréal, DHL, C&A, Primark and Amazon, having made their base camp here.
But there is more to be seen here, like St Vitus Minster, awarded the status of basilica minor by Pope Paul VI in 1974, and its treasure including significant examples of goldsmiths' work, wonderful manuscripts, a tablet inscribed with Germanic runes, a seal of Albertus Magnus and, stored in a gold-plated shrine, the cloth of the Last Supper of Christ. On the modern side, the Abteiberg Museum which is one of the most important German museums for the fine art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Conceived by the post-modernist artist Hans Hollein in 1982, it contains works of Joseph Beuys, Richard Serra, Andy Warhol, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Martin Kippenberger, Markus Oehlen, Heinz Mack, Ulrich Rückriem and Gregor Schneider.
In this tour, you will discover the highlights of the area of Moenchengladbach, see the Market Square and learn about the history of the town, while strolling its beautiful streets.
