Overview

The Marlborough Flyer is a heritage train journey through the scenic vineyards & rolling hills of Marlborough, powered by our retro, red & white, 1950’s classic DA locomotive.
Travelling up the Picton Elevation – one of the steepest gradients in the country at 1-in-37 incline. Upon reaching the plateau, the journey then takes on a more sedate nature & the train meanders alongside the Para Wetlands. Crossing the Wairau River, a sea of vineyards shoulders the Train on the stretch through the town of Blenheim – clear evidence that Marlborough is home to 80% of New Zealand’s wine production, most famously sauvignon blanc. South of Blenheim, the Train traverses the rolling southern hills of Marlborough, snaking through the Dashwood Pass, bursting into the Awatere Valley with the often snow-capped peak, Mt Tapuae-o-Uenuku in the background. The final stretch crosses the Awatere Rail Bridge into Seddon. Enjoy some time to stretch the legs in Seddon before the return journey back to Picton.
