What you can expect
Discover the highlights of Hobart on a guided shore excursion. Visit the majestic Mount Wellington, the historic Richmond Village, and the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Enjoy a wine tasting at Pooley Wines and a cheese tasting at Wicked Cheese.
Meet your guide at the Port of Hobart and begin your tour. Learn about the city's rich history and culture from your expert guide. Hobart, Tasmania’s capital, is the gateway to some of the island's most stunning natural and historical attractions.
Visit the majestic Mount Wellington, locally known as Kunanyi. This towering peak dominates the Hobart skyline, offering unparalleled views of the city and its surrounding wilderness. As you ascend to the summit, be captivated by the changing landscapes—from dense rainforest to subalpine flora.
Journey to the historic Richmond Village, a picturesque town just outside Hobart. Known for its beautifully preserved Georgian architecture, Richmond is like stepping back in time. Stroll through the quaint streets, where you’ll find charming shops, cosy cafes, and the iconic Richmond Bridge—the oldest stone bridge in Australia.
Next, head to the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, a short drive from Hobart. This sanctuary is dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of Tasmania’s unique wildlife. Here, you’ll have the chance to meet some of Australia’s most iconic animals. Get up close and personal with Tasmanian devils, kangaroos, and koalas. Knowledgeable guides will share insights into the sanctuary’s efforts to protect these species, making this visit both educational and heartwarming. Don’t miss the opportunity to feed a kangaroo or snap a selfie with a koala.
Continue to Pooley Wines, located just a short 25-minute drive from Hobart, and just 20 minutes from Hobart airport. The cellar door is located on the outskirts of the historic Richmond township in the heart of the Coal River Valley. Nestled between Belmont, the Georgian convict-built, heritage-listed home, and the vines, you will find the tasting room in The Coach House. Pooley Wines was established in 1985 when the late Jack ‘Denis’ and Margaret Pooley planted vines on the banks of the Coal River in southern Tasmania. Now, in the hands of their third generation, Pooley Wines share exceptional, nurtured wines that express their uniqueness and dedication to renewing their environment for generations to come.
Visit Wicked Cheese for a cheese tasting of award-winning and decadent cheese and browse in the on-site shop. Afterwards, return to the Port of Hobart.
