Rapti Riverbanks: Wildlife Viewing: Spot marsh mugger crocodiles basking in the sun, gharials (fish-eating crocodiles), and various bird species like kingfishers and storks along the riverbanks. Grasslands and Savannahs: One-horned Rhinoceros: Chitwan is renowned for its successful conservation of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. Jeep safaris offer excellent opportunities to observe these majestic creatures grazing in the grasslands. Deer Species: Encounter herds of spotted deer (chital), sambar deer, and occasionally, the elusive hog deer. Sal Forests and Wetlands: Bird Watching: Chitwan National Park is a bird watcher’s paradise with over 500 species recorded. Look out for colourful species like kingfishers, sunbirds, woodpeckers, and rare birds such as the Bengal florican and great hornbill. Asian Elephants: While sightings are less common than rhinos or deer, Chitwan is home to a population of Asian elephants. Keep a lookout in the forested areas for these gentle giants.
