Enjoy an excursion to Pamukkale, and see the ruins of the Greco-Roman settlement at Hierapolis as well as the extraordinary natural formation known as the Cotton Castle.
Reach Pamukkale and visit the ancient city of Hierapolis to see the Greco-Roman ruins. These include the great Roman theatre, the tomb of St. Philip, the Roman baths, the temple to Apollo, and others.
The kings of Pergamon established the thermal spa of Hierapolis, which is registered as cultural and natural heritage site by UNESCO. During your visit to this open-air museum, you’ll also see a massive ancient graveyard that contains over 1,200 sarcophagi, many of which are the size of a small house.
Pamukkale’s alien-seeming landscape is the result of calcite-laden waters that flow from springs in a cliff that rises 200 metres over the plain. You’ll see formations that resemble forests and waterfalls, and also a series of terraced basins.
