Overview

In this tour, the walk difficulty level is Easy/Medium! You`ll walk only 5km and downstream!

Short description: Go across one of the longest suspension bridges of the world and walk the Paiva Walkways trail! Visit one of the highlights of Portugal: Costa Nova, and Aveiro, the Portuguese Venice!

We leave from Porto towards Arouca town where we`ll stop shortly.

After a short drive, we`ll arrive at the Walkways and go across the Suspension Bridge! It spans 516 meters-long across the valley and hangs 175m above the Paiva river!

Then, you`ll walk the Paiva Walkways downhill in a total length of 5km over a wooden boardwalk zig-zagging along the Paiva river.

The walk will be followed by another highlight of our day: lunch! (fish and vegetarian options also available)

After a power nap in the van, we`ll visit Costa Nova and the colourful houses!

Time to enjoy Aveiro! Short walk in the city centre, enjoy some free time and relax on a boat trip to see the charming city through the canals!

  • Notice: Right before our walk starts, we need to go through a winding road over the Paiva mountain. If you have car motion sickness problems, we advise you to have a tablet or a pill to help with that issue.

Activity itinerary

Notice: Due to high heat in summer time, we advise to do walk in the morning and leave the hotel at 8:30 to avoid the heat spikes in the afternoon. - This tour starts at 8:30am and we set off towards the Paiva Walkways; - Once in the Arouca Geopark, we start the 8 km walk of nature and splendour. Right at the beginning, get ready for one of the highlights of this walk: the stairway! - After the walking, is time to get back the energy spent on a delicious traditional meal at a local restaurant. - After lunch, we`ll visit Aveiro, where we will start by appreciating the art in tiles on the walls of the beautiful train station which will help us to understand the city`s culture and history; - Then, its time for a boat ride aboard a traditional “moliceiro” through the canals including an historical explanation about its importance for the history of the city; - It`s time for a walk through the old quarter of the city, see the main emblematic buildings, the fish market and taste one of the delicacies of the city: sweet eggs; - Our tour carries on towards Costa Nova: the magnificent fishing village with its wooden houses in bright striped colours; - Return to your hotel in Porto.
