Itinerary:
Day 1: Kutaisi - Ushguli - Lamaria church - Shkhara glacier - Mestia.
In the morning, Megobari Tours Georgia guide will pick you up at your Kutaisi hotel and you’ll start your beautiful trip to the mountains. You’ll go on the picturesque Kutaisi–Lentekhi–Ushguli road. Listen to stories about Svaneti, a Georgian region that has best preserved ancient culture and language. At midday, arrive at one of the highest villages in Europe, Ushguli (2,100 m), where a few hundred people live year-round. Visit the 9th-century Lamaria Church with views of Georgia’s highest peak – Mt. Shkhara (5,193 m). Then head towards Shkhara glacier: your guide will take you partway in a 4x4 vehicle, and you’ll continue hiking approx. 4 km (1.5–2 hrs return). Horseback option available. After the hike, take iconic photos of Ushguli from the Queen Tamar Castle viewpoint, then drive to Mestia. Drop-off at Mestia hotel.
Day 2: Mestia - Hatsvali Lift - Mestia Museum - Enguri Dam - Kutaisi.
Your guide will meet you at the hotel and you’ll explore old Mestia among its Svan defence towers – climb one if you dare! Take the Hatsvali lift from the town centre and enjoy breathtaking views of the Caucasus range. Then visit the Svaneti Museum of History, home to impressive artefacts once hidden during Georgia’s wars. After lunch, leave Mestia and drive through the scenic mountain road with a stop at Enguri Dam. Return to Kutaisi in the evening. Drop-off at Kutaisi hotel. Expected return: approx. 7–8 PM (let us know if you need to be back by a specific time).
If you will choose 3-day tour option, the itinerary will include additional hikes to the Schdugra waterfall (8km return) and Chaladi Glacier (5km return).
