During our hiking routes you have the opportunity to explore one of the most famous and breathtaking locations in Greece and UNESCO World Heritage monuments, located next to Meteora in central Thessaly. Theopetra Cave is only 3km south from the town. The formation of the limestone rock has been dated to the upper cretaceous period thousand years ago. The site has become increasingly important as human presence is attributed to all periods of the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic, the Mesolithic, Neolithic and beyond, bridging the Pleistocene with the Holocene. Also the river of Pineios and the Pindus Mountains are pretty remarkable. The unique complexity of the huge columns of rock creates an immersive archaeological site of cultural evolution throughout the centuries. On top of these gigantic rocks there are monasteries of great history with their origins trailing back to the 14th century.
