In the winter months, orcas, humpback whales and other whales gather in the fjords of Northern Norway for their big herring-feast. These fantastic giants enjoy their “food platter”, and to be part of this spectacle of nature will leave you in an awe.
However, the wonders of the Northern Norwegian fjords do not end with the whales. The region is also home to the Arctic dolphins and the majestic sea eagle with a wingspan up to 2.5 metres. As we search for the whales, you'll also have a good chance to spot other seabirds-species and a magnificent wildlife.
After the pickup, our guide will inform you about the itinerary of the day and will safely lead you through this adventure since we start our tour by minibus from Alta. During a 1,5 hours’ drive to the pier where the adventure starts, you will enjoy breathtaking landscapes, where nature's wonders unfold direct before your eyes.
You will also learn about the history of this area from the stone age to modern times, about the Sami people, the Second World War, and other interesting topics.
Arriving to Burfjord, our captain will take you to an exciting boat tour on the fjord searching for wildlife and whales. We will sail for 3 hours into Kvænangsfjorden, and even if we cannot guarantee that we will meet the whales, you will for sure be fascinated by the fantastic coastal landscape and exciting wildlife in the Arctic Sea.
The tour will take place in a comfortable 18 metres long boat with max capacity of 30 pax. Our captain and experienced guides will lead you safely through this adventure. Under the boat transfer to the hot-spot and in periods when the whales are diving, you can stay inside in the warm cabin and enjoy hot chocolate and snacks.
After this adventure, we will drive back to Alta aprox 1,5 hours, passing again beautiful fjord landscapes and listening to interesting Norwegian stories. The entire tour is estimated to take 6 hours, including the transport Alta - Burfjord - Alta.
