Activity itinerary

Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman
  • 1h
The Temple of Santo Domingo de Guzmán in the city of Oaxaca de Juárez (Mexico) is an example of Novohispana Baroque architecture. The first construction projects of the building date back to 1551, in which the City Council of the Antequera de Oaxaca ceded to the Dominican Order a total of twenty-four lots for the construction of a convent in the city. However, it was not until 1608 that the convent complex of Santo Domingo was inaugurated, even without completion. Throughout its history, the Temple of Santo Domingo has been the scene of several important events in the history of Mexico: it was converted into a military winery, a stable, closed to Catholic worship at the time of Jacobin secularism of governments emanating from the Reform War, and then returned again to the Church by agreement of Porfirio Díaz. In 1979 he received the visit of the Catholic pontiff John Paul II, and then declared — along with the entire Historic Centre of Oaxaca – Cultural Heritage of Humanity

Mercado 20 de Noviembre
  • 30m
One of the places that is literally a reliquary of the taste of Oaxaca, is the 20th of November Market, which is located just a few steps from the plinth of the capital. It was built in 1882, for which it is also considered a Historical Heritage, its wingspan sitting on its tradition. Here the gastronomy is inherited and created, here the gastronomic alchemy is continuous. Oaxacan cuisine is one of the most celebrated treasures by Mexicans. Aromas, colours and history, the gastronomy of Oaxaca has its own personality that no one can give up on. Although the dishes of this beautiful state are available throughout the national territory, the truth is that only in Oaxaca can we taste them genuinely. During the seasons of greatest tourist influx, the market can receive up to 15 thousand diners per day. Lovers of Oaxacan cuisine can choose from the 207 locals of the four gastronomic areas.
