What you can expect
♂️ Uncover the Hidden Gems of Medellin: Authentic Barrio (Area)
Embark on a journey beyond the tourist-packed streets and delve into the heart of Comuna 4, a area that for years the government did not recognise, where now authenticity thrives and local stories come to life. Our immersive walking tour is not just a stroll; it's an intimate exploration led by a passionate guide and a local community leader who grew up in the barrio and who calls this vibrant community home.
What Sets Us Apart:
Respect, Experience, and Knowledge:
- Respect: We strongly believe in respectful social tourism, that's why we don't take big groups and we don´t flood the Barrio with tourists every day. This is not “poverty tourism”, quite the opposite, it's an opportunity for locals to show you how proud they are of their barrio.
- Experience: We have been running this experience for more than 8 years, amplifying the voice of the locals and showing the different and sometimes contradicting angles of the Transformation of Medellin.
- Knowledge: We are professional tour guides who have lived abroad, and are not satisfied with over-simplified explanations. We love going beyond the visible to explain the invisible: We explain the Colombian education system, the health care system, the welfare system, and more.
Local Guides, Local Stories:
Connect with our local community leaders (Gloria, Gladis, or Heroina), proud residents, and founders of the Barrio. Their personal anecdotes and deep-rooted knowledge add layers to your journey, providing insights into the neighborhood's rich history, culture, and daily life. You won't find this level of authenticity in the guidebooks.
Community Connection:
Our commitment goes beyond tourism; we believe in giving back. The local community leaders get paid and also a portion of your tour fee directly contributes to community initiatives, ensuring that your exploration leaves a positive impact on the area we hold dear.
