Paris 1899. A young writer falls in love with the star of the legendary nightclub Moulin Rouge. But Christian and Satine's love is put to a tragic test when the influential Duke of Monroth comes into play. He wants to take over the financially troubled Moulin Rouge - but also its “sparkling diamond”: Satine.

Together with club owner Harold Zidler and the most dazzling bohemians in all of Paris - the brilliant but starving artist Toulouse-Lautrec and Santiago, the city's most fiery tango dancer - Christian stages a musical spectacle to save the Moulin Rouge and fight for his love.
