The EL-DE Haus is officially NS Documentation Centre. Prior to and during WWII it was the headquarters of Gestapo, the secret police which was known for its terror and brutality. Surprisingly the building survived heavy city bombings during WWII and now is a witness and guardian of the darkest times in German history. It is a combination of a memorial site, learning and research centre.

The basements of the house had been used as prison cells and torture rooms for forced labourers and political enemies. Over 1800 inscriptions made on the walls by the prisoners can still be viewed today. The upper floors with Gestapo offices represent administrative terror and an evil system created by Nazis.
