What you can expect
The tour will introduce you the unique characteristics of Azerbaijani grapes, while exploring the wines produced across the country. For this, we will visit two local wine establishments handpicked for their dedicated service and special selection of local wines.
You’ll also learn about the wine making history of Azerbaijan from prehistoric times through Soviet Union to the present time. Indulge in tastings, culinary pairings, and lively discussions, creating memories to savour long after the tour ends.
Wine is produced in several regions throughout Azerbaijan, mainly in Ganja, Gabala, Shamakhi, Goygol, Khachmaz, Goychay, Shamkir, Tovuz, Absheron and other regions. During the Soviet Union, the wine industry flourished in Azerbaijan, but came to a certain halt after independence. Long history of wine production in Azerbaijan was discovered during archaeological excavations of certain ancient settlements across the country. During the expeditions archaeologists discovered fermentation vats and storage vessels that included residue and grape seeds dating back to the second millennium BC. Baku (Absheron region) has also become renowned lately for its developing vineyards.
This immersive experience invites you to uncover the hidden gems of Baku's wine scene, sampling exquisite local varieties and discovering the passion behind each glass.
Start your delicious adventure as you greet your local knowledgeable guide in front of Nasimi monument. Your guide will lead you to two carefully selected local wine establishments, each with its own unique charm. At each stop, you'll have the opportunity to engage with seasoned passionate wine experts who will help you define the subtle expression of local wines.
Meanwhile, you will discover more about the traditional wine making techniques passed down through generations and gain insight into the modern innovations shaping Azerbaijan's burgeoning wine industry. Throughout the tour, you'll also have the chance to savour delicious pairings of artisanal cheeses, freshly baked bread, and other culinary delights that perfectly complement the wines.
