At the appointed time we'll meet at Pozo da Aguada, opposite the Tourist Office, where we'll start this walking tour of Baiona, a city rich in history. Since this is a private tour, you may alter the following itinerary as you wish when feasible within this tour's duration.
We'll start our tour of Baiona on the seafront promenade, where we'll walk to enjoy the view of Mount Boi and the castle of Monterreal, with its towers and battlements. This imposing fortress is now a Parador de Turismo Hotel.
In addition to other interesting stories, we'll unveil how the news of the Discovery of America arrived in Baiona by La Pinta, one of Christopher Columbus' ships. But this coast not only attracted new messages from the Indies but also invasions by pirates and corsairs such as the famous Francis Drake.
We'll continue walking while admiring the monument of the Virgen de la Roca, Our Lady of the Rock, which is 49 feet (15 metres) high. Afterwards, we'll discover the house of Pedro Madruga, a very important character in the history of Baiona.
Our next stop will be in the old town of Baiona. We'll walk through its narrow streets passing by emblematic buildings such as A Casa do Perdón, The House of Forgiveness, and we'll also follow the route of the famous pilgrimage, Camino de Santiago.
Finally, we will return to the promenade to see the statue of Alfonso IX, one of the kings who brought popularity to Baiona. At this point, we'll end the tour after two hours of sightseeing.
