Overview

A primeval forest, Aokigahara Jyukai was born 1200 years ago. It is located on foot of a volcanic mauntain, Mt. Fuji.
The Sea of Trees is a forest formed on a large amount of lava flows that flowed out of Mt. Fuji.
Trees and moss, ferns have vigorously grown and widespread, sunlight illuminates vibrant nature, the spectacular scenery and the atmosphere are truly breathtaking.
Surrounding the area are many ancient caves with fresh water directly from the snow on Mount Fuji. The area is full of natural wonders.

Lake Saiko Bat Cave (西湖コウモリ穴) is the largest of the several lava tubes in the Aokigahara Jukai Forest at the southwest of Lake Saiko. The total extension is over 350 metres and is the largest in the lava cave at the foot of Mt.Fuji. (Closed in the winter months)

The Dragon Cave

The Dragon Cave (龍宮洞穴) was one of the sacred places for the worshiper of Mt. Fuji during Edo period. It is nationally designated natural monument. It is said that the god of water was enshrined and a ritual to pray for rain was once held during times of drought. *Entry is prohibited due to danger of falling rocks

Sanko-dai Panoramic Viewing Platform (三湖台), as the name suggests, you can see 3 lakes, Lake Saiko, Lake Shojiko, and Lake Motosuko at the same time. It is on the way of the “Tokai Nature Trail", it will be a great break time during hiking seeing beautiful views. There is also spacious rest area.
Narusawa Ice Cave

Narusawa Ice Cave (鳴沢氷穴) is a typical lava cave at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Over 1150 years ago, during year 6 of the Jogan era, Nagaoyama, a flank volcano of Mt. Fuji erupted. The red hot lava flow descended between ancient parasitic volcanoes, creating this two-tunnel type cave. It was introduced to the world as a geological wonder after being designated as a natural monument in 1929. The tree-type lava bed is said to have the most spiracles in the world.

Fugaku Wind Cave (富岳風穴) is one of the biggest cave around Mt. Fuji area. It is pleasantly cool even in summer, with an average temperature of 3℃. You can see ice pillars which are made every year. It was used as a refrigerator to store the eggs of silkworms up until 100 years ago. The cave has also been designated as a Japanese natural monument. It is the lateral type cave that tourist can easily walk through.
