What you can expect

The Vasco da Gama Aquarium, located at the gates of Lisbon, is not only an Aquarium, it is also a Museum. A Museum born of a prince's dream and his ambition to know the depths of the ocean.

Visiting the Vasco da Gama Aquarium is to allow yourself to board the Yacht Amelia, belonging to the Portuguese royal family, sailing along the coast of Sesimbra in the company of the then King of Portugal, Carlos I. From the ship's logbook to the Vasco da Gama Aquarium, in a trip between the depths of the sea and the sea slopes where we can contemplate only by sea.

The Vasco da Gama Aquarium is one of the oldest museum aquariums in the world and has been visited by successive generations of families since its opening on May 20th, 1898. It is a historical heritage that promotes Portuguese aquatic life and it has the private King Carlos I Oceanographic Collection.
