What you can expect

Enjoy the unique flavours of Alentejo’s cuisine at some of the most typical Borba’s taverns with a total of 5 stops and 13 mouth-watering tastings in this 3 hour walking food tour.

Taverns are an important part of Alentejo social daily life. Food and drinks have always been a central role in those social moments and you’ll have the chance to emerge into that during a morning.

Enjoy walking through the medieval narrow and cobblestoned streets of Borba's city centre, one of the places where that social tradition is still very present, while stopping at some of those typical taverns to taste the local favourite delicacies while feeling the vibe of the local social life.

The guide will talk with you about all the curiosities about wines, liqueurs, petiscos, codfish, pork, pastries, olives, cheese or bread but also about the local history and social life.

You will learn also about the importance of Alentejo to Portugal's very diverse cuisine and how some of the most famous and distinctive Portuguese petiscos were created in this geographical area.

Among others, you will try the world renowned codfish, Portugal’s cuisine king, the non least famous black pork, Alentejo’s cuisine prince, but also fried mackerel, one of Borba’s favourites.

At all the stops, while eating you’ll be given the local wines to savour … white or red … or both!

Mandatory in all food experiences in Portugal, the guests of honour: cheese, salami, chouriço, olives and bread will also be there to delight you.

Pastries and cookies are also an important part of the Portuguese historical food culture and you'll have the chance to taste some of the local favourites.
