We’ll park our bikes just outside Schoonschip, Amsterdam's pioneering floating village, and take a leisurely walk through this innovative and eco-conscious community. As we stroll along the tranquil canals, you’ll be amazed by the modern, sustainable houseboats that make up this unique area. As we take a turn off the dike, we leave behind the more vibrant, residential areas and enter the peaceful Dutch countryside. Our route leads us to the village of Ransdorp, with its iconic church tower rising proudly above the flat farmland. As we cycle through Durgerdam, we follow the village’s scenic high street—the dike—offering breathtaking views over the IJ Lake. As we cycle over the tall, impressive Schellingwouder Bridge and Amsterdamse Bridge, we leave the peaceful countryside of Noord behind and make our way into the more urban landscape of Oost. This route is a great way to witness how an old city like Amsterdam is evolving—on one side, the quaint wooden houses of Noord, and on the other, entirely new, modern areas rising in Oost. As we approach the Scheepvaartmuseum (National Maritime Museum) from the outside, you'll be struck by the grandeur of its neoclassical architecture. The museum is housed in a stunning 17th-century building that was originally constructed as a warehouse for the storage of materials used by the nearby shipyards during Amsterdam's Golden Age. Docked next to the museum, is the impressive replica of a VOC (Dutch East India Company) ship, the Amsterdam.
