Relax near the ponds and fountains of the excellent gardens and tour the period rooms of one of Germany’s largest and most lavishly decorated Baroque palaces.

Wuerzburg Residence is an enormous palace of Baroque style surrounded by landscaped gardens and dense forests. The 18th-century mansion contains period furnishings and décor along with impressive frescoes and other works of art. Visit this elegant masterpiece for its collection of artworks and stunning architectural features.

Marvel at some of the highlights of this palace, including the grand staircase that greets you in the hall. Imagine the courtly and cultural life of the aristocratic historic figures who roamed these halls in the 1700s and onward.

Embark on a guided tour of the mansion for a more complete appreciation of its many chambers and halls. The residence opens more than 40 period rooms to the public. Begin on the ground floor with the Vestibule and the Garden Hall. Climb the elegant staircase to the upper story, where you will find many rooms with period décor.

Wander through the labyrinthine paths of the Court Garden. It is comprised of many symmetrical sections and is split into the East Garden, the South Garden and the nursery grounds. Relax near the ponds, fountains and topiary displays of these landscaped gardens.

Note that the site was constructed between 1720 and 1744, decades before the interior and the gardens were put into place. Balthasar Neumann and other acclaimed architects of the era worked together to make this rococo palace under the patronage of prince-bishops. It was reconstructed to its present state after being heavily damaged in World War II.

The site opens daily from morning until late afternoon. There is an admission fee, with free entry for those under 18 years of age. Visit the Court Chapel and the Court Garden for free. Tours in English take place several times per day.

Wuerzburg Residence is a little east of the historic center of the city. Walk east from the Wuerzburg Cathedral for less than 10 minutes or arrive at the nearby Wuerzburg Sud rail station to get here. Make sure to see other attractions in the area, such as the forested Klein Nizza and Ringpark and the Mainfranken Theater.
