Lovely peaceful surroundings. Parts of the hotel were noticeably better than others. Staff were very good, bar and dining in particular. Room was very hot, with no air conditioning, and no window to help. I would stay again but only with an upgraded room.

I want my full.money refunded immediately. This hotel was a nitemare to get to when I did the basin full of water. Could not drain staff told me they use a hammer. This is a disgrace given it is a hotel chain. What the hell is going on. I told the two members of staff immediately I wanted my refund. They said I would have e to do it on here first die to me having booming through Expedia. . Shocking. I have never come across this before. Disgusting and how about other guests before me used it and the hegine and thinking about it is disgusting. I am fuming not happy and could not even have a full shave. Full refund and compensation. Not happy at all to be honest. Matt

Very tired. Needs maintenance desperately. Few things in the room not working. Hearing. Fine in the summer but winter is approaching. Shower flooded as drainage poor but shower was strong and hot. Every window frame I could see was rotted badly. It’s a shame as it’s a beautiful old building but not had the money spent on it to keep it nice.

We stayed here for one night & stayed in the older part. I'm not sure if we got an upgrade but our room was massive. Areas needed a bit of a refresh but it's a stunning older building. We had lovely drinks at the bar in the walled garden & ducks walking by. I would definitely stay here again. I love older places that have character.

Walton Hall is gorgeous and we thought we were staying in there but we were put in a different building so disappointed with that but our room was spotless and well appointed, very close to restaurant and bar. Food was great but most of the bar staff were new and need more training. They were friendly but extremely slow and didn’t have a lot of bartending knowledge.

I booked the stay for a great sis experience. However the spa does not have a jacuzzi and the children’s club starts from 4pm and so it’s best to use the swimming pool before this time. Oliver, Deputy Manager was very helpful & he accommodated my request to change our room. The restaurant staff are polite & humble. The dining options are limited & so if I were to stay again I would consider other dining options close to the hotel.

I didn’t have time to walk in the grounds. The hotel was good and service excellent. Delicious food at the restaurant. However , because the hotel is off the main road my Sat Nav could not pick up the final destination and I got lost though I was so near. I arrived half an hour later than planned and rather stressed. Purely by chance I went to the Spa block and met someone who gave me the final directions. Not enough signage on the Fosse way or incoming roads which should be rectified. Also , initially I was supposed to stay in one of the adjoining blocks to the main building. There were steps up and down and I had a suitcase and was wearing heels because of a formal occasion in the following day so I came wearing them. The initial room was therefore inconvenient. I had booked online and there was no warning about the fact that to get to my room there were no lifts since the building was not attached to the main block. Luckily the lovely receptionist changed my room to the main block and I could use a lift. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. I found trying to phone in advance impossible since the reception phone was continually busy. More information about the layout of the rooms should be given on your website. Maybe there could also be two phones on reception to deal with hotel guests particularly at busy times.

Very unimpressed with the check in service. I was a late arrival. Exterior signage needs to be easier to read at night. I called to find out where to go and was met and walked to reception. I checked in and walked a long way to the room to find it was a double, not the twin I booked. The brief version is after over an hour, walking from room to room, getting wet in the rain moving rooms we finally got a twin room. The man on the desk was very morose, didn't make eye contact, smile or be in any way pleasant. I was told 24-hour reception but the phone when I called for a fan said the mailbox was full!! Had to use my mobile to call reception. Checkout time is 11 am, I hung the do not disturb sign on the door and still the cleaners came into the room at 8.30 and switched the light on. The final straw was a sliver of glass on the floor embedding in my foot. I expect better from a Mercure!!

No.28 superior room Waldon hall,Stains on bed cushion Key lock not working and was given extra that did not work (moved to a smaller room but was no match) went back to original room and lock battery changed Shower door broken and signs of rust Evening dinner Cod overcooked 2 x Caesar salad salty and replacement also too salty also asked for cod menu instead Food not value for money Swimming pool and spa. Although we was given complimentary passes to the pool and spa, the attendant lied to us saying the mens changing room were out of order when infact it was the womens changing rooms as my wife noticed the urinals in the toilet area,Locker key didn't match number on lock as I result I had to use disabled toilets to change which caused an inconvenience to people who really needed it. Pool side was constantly flooded as drains not adequate Breakfast Very poor variation of breakfast meals, food in buffet section was not replenished as bakebeans had run out at 10am, hashbrowns not cooked properly, felt more hungry after leaving. Summary My wife and I was very disappointed with the stay at this hotel as it suppose to be a special occasion marking our anniversery we booked a superior room and over all it wasn't the most pleasent experience although I have to say we slept quite well, some members of staff were unapologetic in there actions and no acknowledgement that they were in the wrong in regards to the faulty card reader to open the door, would not recommend staying here

Certainly not deserving of their star rating
The staff on checkin were not the most helpful. We were instructed to go a very long way round to our room, and when we advised we only had one coffee cup in our room we were told to go to the restaurant ourselves to get one! The breakfast area wasn’t well stocked - no plates. We, and other guests, had to keep asking for items to be replenished. This was half way through service, not even towards the end. The room was clean and comfortable, however toiletries were empty. Both the body wash and shampoo bottles on the side of the bath were empty. No USB points to charge phones, for a fairly new building/renovation this was surprising. Overall not a great experience.
