These curious creatures are unfazed by human presence and will usually stick around long enough for an unforgettable close-up view.

Another popular way to appreciate the environment is by renting a kayak to explore independently at your own pace, or join a kayak eco-tour. Leaving from Wailea Beach, these guided tours follow the natural contours of the coastline and usually call in at a secluded beach for a spot of undisturbed snorkelling.

Enjoy a change of scene by taking a pleasant stroll to Ulua Beach Park, just to the north of Wailea. The reef reaches almost to the boardwalk along this unspoilt beach, and graceful manta rays can often be sighted close to shore. Alternatively, test your handicap at one of three championship golf courses, or book a floodlit court at the Wailea Tennis Club to let off steam in the cool of the evening.
