Uden is a medium-sized town of some 35,000 inhabitants which has retained its rural character. Kids can run around at the recreation park or the petting zoo, while nature beckons to be explored by bicycle.
The area around Uden has been inhabited since the Bronze Age but wasn't really mentioned until the end of the 12th century. It was a farming community for centuries and grew into the modern city it is today in the years following WWII.
One of the main sights near Uden is airbase Volkel. The airbase's museum has a number of planes on exhibition and you can even sit in an F-16!
Take the kids to Uden's petting zoo to teach them about the animals in a playful way. Fun and games can be had at BillyBird Park Hemelrijk, where you can experience the thrill of a rope course, water slide, climbing wall and rollercoaster.
If you're with your partner, a bike ride or walk through Natuurgebied Maashorst may be the perfect way to spend the day. If you're more adventurous, head out to Manege Paardenpersion Verstegen and explore the area on horseback.
Uden is a small town, making it easy to explore on foot or by bike. If you're travelling by car you can park in the city centre close to the shops. Uden doesn't have a train station (the nearest train station is in 's-Hertogenbosch) but has enough city and regional buses to get you around town or take you to bigger cities such as Eindhoven and 's-Hertogenbosch in about the same time it would take you to drive (30 to 40 minutes).
Visit Uden for a relaxing day or weekend away.
