Mirafiori is a primarily residential area located just to the southwest of Turin’s historic center. Stay here to enjoy accommodation at a lower rate than in the heart of the city, or just pay the neighborhood a visit to enjoy seeing the locals going about their days. Bask in the sun as you feast on a picnic at one of the parks or green spaces scattered across the district, or sip a coffee while people watching at a café with outdoor seating.
As with Turin more widely, Mirafiori has strong industrial roots. It is divided into two sections, Mirafiori Nord (North) and Mirafiori Sud (South). The latter is home to one of Turin’s remaining industrial powerhouses, the Fiat Chrysler Factory. Head just a few streets over, to the next-door neighborhood of Lingotto, to discover another sign of the area’s history of production, the Lingotto Building. This vast and impressive factory was once also used to manufacture Fiat cars, but has now been transformed into an entertainment and shopping center. Head up to the roof to see its amazing test track.
The best way to discover the delights of Mirafiori is simply by wandering with no particular aim, stumbling across interesting family-run businesses and seeing the city’s residents enjoying their home district. Along the way, look for some of the neighborhood’s highlights. Pay a visit to the small but lovely Cappella Anselmetti, a pretty and historic chapel with a charming pink-and-white façade. Enjoy a moment of peace in the simple and tranquil interior.
Right around the corner is the Cascina Roccafranca, a community-led cultural center. Check what is on during your visit. The program tends to include live music shows, talks (in Italian), events for children and more.
Take public transportation from the historic center of Turin to reach Mirafiori within an hour. Visit on a sunny day to take the opportunity to enjoy the area’s parks. Head to Mirafiori Sud to wander the green expanses of Parco Gustavo Colonnetti or Parco Piemonte. Both join up with Parco Boschetto, which lies just outside the neighborhood’s boundaries.
