Picturesque valleys, beaches and mountains, diverse wildlife and adventure sports make this one of the Eastern Cape’s most appealing national parks.

The magnificent Tsitsikamma National Park is spread over valleys, rugged mountains and a sweeping coastline. Hike through the scenic landscapes, explore the coursing Storms River and try extreme sports. Tsitsikamma National Park is part of the Garden Route National Park and stretches approximately 50 miles (80 kilometres) along South Africa’s southern coast.

The park is ideal for discovering the Eastern Cape’s lush wilderness. Explore Tsitsikamma National Park’s network of excellent hiking trails. Traverse the multi-day Otter Trail, which follows the coastline between Storms River Mouth and Nature’s Valley. Hike through native fynbo forests and watch waves crash against the rocky shore. Shorter hikes include the Blue Duiker Trail and Waterfall Trail.

Visit the rest camp at Storms River Mouth to take part in water-based activities such as boat cruises and kayaking tours. Go snorkeling in the rock pools. Enjoy sweeping views from the Storms River Suspension Bridge. Spot a range of different bird species, as well as dolphins and whales migrating between June and December. Travel high up in the treetops on a zip-line tour or visit viewpoints on a rented mountain bike.

Find more opportunities for adventure at Nature’s Valley, on the park’s westernmost edge. Paddle a canoe along the Groot River to discover a pristine gold-sandy beach. Follow walking trails across hills clad in evergreen forests. Admire the architecture of the nearby Bloukrans Bridge. Brave the bungee jump off this 709-feet (216-metre) tall bridge to experience one of the world’s highest bungee jumps.

Tsitsikamma National Park sits on the western edge of the Eastern Cape, about a 1-hour drive from Plettenberg Bay and 90 minutes from Jeffrey’s Bay. A good way to visit the park is via rented car. Well-maintained roads lead to observation decks and designated picnic areas.

An admission fee is payable when entering the rest camps at Storms River Mouth and Nature’s Valley. Both camps offer accommodation in the form of camping grounds, cabins and lodges. The park benefits from consistently mild temperatures with rain common throughout the year. Rain generally falls at night, leaving the days clear for outdoor adventures.
