What better place to start your visit than the municipal palace? This 3-story building of ashlar stonework is the Torrelavega Town Hall – you’ll definitely want to get some photos for your album here. In front of the palace is the red square, which is what the locals call the city's main square because of the colour of the ground there.
One thing that certainly isn’t lacking on our cheap trips to Torrelavega are churches, of which the Neo-Gothic Iglesia de la Asunción is the most traditional. Construction began in 1892, coinciding with a period of financial prosperity for the city. You’ll definitely want to see the Iglesia de la Virgen Grande, a Rationalist-style church using reinforced concrete. Its hollow belfry, with its built-in clock and bell tower, will leave you speechless. Lastly, the church of San Miguel de Campuzano is one of the best examples of organic architecture in all of Cantabria. Explore its circular floor plan and set some time aside to relax in its central garden.
Of course, if you want to enjoy the tranquillity offered by Torrelavega, you should visit its parks. Manuel Barquín Park, for instance, is the green lung of the city centre. Construction of an auditorium there has made it a cultural landmark for locals. The natural space par excellence is Miravalles Park, covering nine hectares. It is the ideal place to practise outdoor sports, enjoy a picnic with friends or simply rest for a while. The possibilities of things to do on our package deals to Torrelavega are truly endless!
