1. Zugspitze

Experience Germany’s highest peak at Zugspitze, a ski resort located on a beautiful glacier. The mountain’s high altitude, reaching 9,718 feet (2,962 meters) above sea level, ensures excellent snow coverage for powder-hungry skiers.

2. Garmisch-Partenkirchen Ski Resort

Garmisch-Classic Ski Resort (formerly known as the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Ski Resort) is a world-class ski area high in the Bavarian Alps. Considered one of Germany’s finest, this ski resort hosted the Winter Olympics in 1936 and the debut of alpine skiing at the games. Discover a large expanse of skiable terrain across several mountain areas, from easy beginner slopes to daredevil black-diamond runs. On the south side, check out Kreuzeck, Osterfelder and Hausberg. Beneath the summit of Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain, find a stunning skiable glacial plateau with truly remarkable views.

3. Linderhof Palace

Of all of “Mad King” Ludwig II’s elaborate building projects, Linderhof Palace was the only one he lived to see completed and the one most designed for his lifestyle. Built on the site of a former lodge that the crown prince used on hunting trips with his father, it is essentially a palace built for one man. Originally referred to as the “Little Versailles,” it resembles the Sun King’s famous palace. See in the building and gardens a potent display of Ludwig’s self-conception as a “Night King.”

4. Golden Roof

At the very heart of Innsbruck’s Old Town quarter, right in the central square itself, the Golden Roof or Goldenes Dachl has strong claims to being the city’s centrepiece. The glimmering gold tiles are framed by the brilliant white of the traditional Tyrolean buildings in the square and set against a backdrop of Alpine mountaintops, providing a picture postcard image for visitors’ photo-albums. Inside the building you’ll find a museum where you can learn about local history.

5. Seegrube Cable Car

For those of us who get tired of honking cars and bustling streets, and for those of us who crave green expanses and open skies, look no further than the Nordkette cable car. Within 20 minutes you can be hiking or skiing (depending on the season), or smugly enjoying a coffee at 1900 metres above sea level.
