Tallberg is a very special village in the Swedish county of Dalarna. The village is made up of wooden houses and despite the fact that only around 200 people live here all year, there are a total of eight hotels in the village. Something is clearly attracting visitors to Tallberg year after year, both from Sweden and from overseas. Once you start looking at what this tiny village has to offer, it will no longer come as a surprise that so many people travel to Tallberg.
The scenic surroundings are of course a major reason for Tallberg's popularity. The village is located immediately southeast of lake Siljan, on its south eastern shores. Enjoy a splendid view of the water from the marina Tallbergs Brygga. At the beach Tallbergsstranden you can go for a swim in summer if you are brave, but the rest of the year many of Tallbergs hotels offer warm baths indoors.
At Tallbergsstranden you can also see one of the village's most popular spots, which is the open air dancefloor. Here the local people gather to dance to traditional folk music in the long summer evenings. The Swedish midsummer celebration that takes place here in late June is perhaps the village's proudest event. If you want to experience a truly traditional midsummer celebration with flower wreaths and dancing around maypoles, this is the place to come.
If you don't happen to be travelling around midsummer, Tallberg still offers plenty to do during the rest of the year as well. In winter you can go skiing in the forest or ice skate on lake Siljan when it freezes over. Many of the shops in the village are open all year. You can browse crafts and decorative items at Tallbergs Hemslojd, Tallbergs Keramik and Klockargardens Hantverksgard, to name a few.
A stones throw from Tallberg Station you find the nine hole golf course Tallbergsbyarnas Golfklubb. Every year you can take part in Tallberg Half Marathon, or if you prefer shorter distances you can sign up for a variety of those. Many hotels in Tallberg offer spa treatments, which might be nice after the race.
The closest international airport to Tallberg is located in Stockholm, but there is a domestic airport called Mora-Siljan Airport on the other end of lake Siljan. Fly from Stockholm in 50 minutes or take the train or drive in around 3.5 hours. If you choose to fly, remember that you still have about an hour's drive from the airport in Mora to Tallberg, so it might be worth renting a car. If you do that you will also have the opportunity to explore many more interesting and beautiful places around the beautiful lake Siljan.
