Booked a single room at a cheapish rate for Sydney- was only staying one night and didn’t need anything fancy. Check in still carries an outdated policy of either $100 cash deposit or $200 credit card (which you might not see for 14 business days after release) for “incidentals”. I don’t know what incidentals they mean because there are no mini bars or services offered. The room was located off the stairwell by itself, it felt like a converted broom cupboard!
The room was tiny but clean. There’s a fleecy bed spread without a cover which I’m not keen on for hygiene reasons. The room was visibly soundproofed felt panels with double glazed non opening windows however nothing could stop the the earthquake like deep rumbles and heavy clanging from the trains below. At first I thought I was next door to Cinema or a nightclub but I realised with dismay this would be my realty ALL NIGHT LONG. Not even my noise cancelling earphones and ear plugs could save my sleep. Do not stay here if you are noise sensitive like me. The windows looked into a dim abyss of a tall building courtyard a was very Londonesque and every bit as depressing..
The bed was a bit stiff, was glad morning came so I could leave.
Staff were silent, no pleasantries, smiles or greeting. An epitome of the way most hospitality and accomodation places such as Megaboom operate these days, wholly impersonal and indifferent.
Apart from the above it’s very central and well placed for food, transport and attractions.
