Enjoy a classic Cape Cod day at Surf Drive Beach. Of Falmouth's 10 beaches, this one is closest to the town centre. Its convenient location and calm waters makes Surf Drive Beach a favourite spot for holiday makers.
Surf Drive Beach stretches for 0.5 miles (0.8 kilometres) along Vineyard Sound. It is bounded by the oceanfront mansions of Clinton Avenue to the north and Oyster Pond to the south.
Even though it gets crowded during the summer, it is a large beach by Cape Cod standards. You should have no problem finding a spot to spread out your beach blanket and umbrella in the sand.
Everywhere you turn, you are met with gorgeous views. Look across the sound to the quaint island of Martha's Vineyard, which sits just a few miles offshore. If you look south, you can see the iconic Nobska lighthouse standing sentry at the end of the Nobska Point.
Take a relaxing dip in the water or venture farther out to see if you can catch some waves. See if you can catch a striper or a bluefish from the shore. Paddleboarding and kayaking are also favourite pastimes here.
Surf Drive Beach has more amenities than most of Falmouth’s other beaches. Wash off the sand and salt water in its bathroom and showers. Grab a snack or a drink at the concession stand. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer.
If you’re arriving by car, park in the large beachside parking lot. Attendants will collect parking and entry fees. During the summer, the parking lot is open all day but you will get towed if you leave your car there overnight. The lot gates remain open 24 hours a day during the off-season.
You can easily reach Surf Drive Beach from Falmouth’s town centre. It’s just a short walk from Walker Street. After a day in the surf and sun, sample the town’s charming shops and delicious restaurants.
