"This is a beautiful part of the country and particularly handy if you like watersports - loch is within 100 yards of the hotel. "Very clean and well presented. Excellent facilities. Whilst I give the Rural Retreat 5*'s I'd give myself less as I missed that the room was not ensuite and that breakfast (which was very good btw) was not included. I will look more closely next time. Whilst St Finans is close to interesting places, there is not much in the village itself. Wifi was not great, but that is a problem for the area rather than for any specific property."

What's not to love?

"My partner and I needed a place to stay on our way up north, and since he grew up near the Hydro, we decided to give it a go. What a good shout! From DoubleTree's classic, warm cookies to the spaciousness of the room, we felt at home and comfortable. The Hydro also oozes Victorian charm and boasts stunning views of the surrounding area. What's not to love? It's actually a shame we didn't stay longer. We're keen to return, especially to try The Kailyard by Nick Nairn. My only issue is that the room door allowed a lot of noise through which was a slight disturbance."
