Smyrna Dunes Park is situated on 250 acres (101 hectares) of unspoiled land at the northern end of New Smyrna Beach peninsula. Breathe in the fresh sea air and enjoy views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Ponce Inlet. Towering over you is the bright-red Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse, located across the inlet.
Marvel at the uniqueness of the park, which contains five ecosystems: ocean, river, sand dunes, scrub and saltwater marsh. Go wildlife-watching birds, reptiles and marine creatures make their home in the mangroves along the shoreline, the rolling dunes and sand flats. Take a guided nature walk and learn more about the native animals and vegetation from local experts.
Pack a picnic for the family and enjoy lunch at one of the many picnic pavilions. Climb the observation tower to enjoy panoramic views of the pristine scenery. Stroll along the 2-mile (3.2-kilometre) boardwalk, which is elevated over the dunes and circles the area. The boardwalk allows visitors to explore the surroundings without damaging the fragile dune vegetation. It is fully wheelchair accessible, and there are several jetties where you can approach the sea and get to the water.
The surrounding city of New Smyrna Beach is a haven for outdoor recreation. The waters are perfect for fishing, boating and swimming. Learn to surf, or refresh your skills with lessons from local businesses. You’ll soon see why New Smyrna Beach is consistently ranked as one of the best surf towns in the entire world.
