Great neighbourhood
The locaion is terrific, you aee close tot he ferry that crosses the river to Pudong (2 RMV) and just a 2 block walk has you in the backstreets for shopping and great local food, we eat there evrynight. Also the Bund starts (ends) just at this hotel, so the location is terrific.
The Hotel is fine, and we had a pleasant stay, the rugs and flooring are showing their age, but they are clean and it is no big deal - you will like your stay here. the buffet breakfast was so/so - the food was fine but the coffee was not - sorry need decent coffee if I am to have a decent day! Only gave them one try on this.
It was my pleasure to stay at the Shanghai Riverview Hotel for two weeks from 15 September 2011. My stay overall one of the best I have had in 7 visits to Shanghai in various hotels. This was my first time at this hotel but will not be the last. The room on the 17th floor was very comfortable and the bed was softer than others previously encountered. The outlook to the river was excellent but will soon disappear as the building next door, now at an early stage, will eventually block this view. Breakfast was very good and the Chinese Restaurant on the 4th floor served an excellent meal. My friends and I enjoyed dinner in a private dining room and the meal and service were of an excellent standard. Staff were friendly and helpful in every respect. The Hotel is situated at the "River Cruise embarcation" end of the Bund, a recently transformed area upgraded for the 2010 Expo. The Hotel is situated back off the road but presented no problems for taxis as previously reported. A basic shop is located in the road behind the Hotel and only 10 metres from the gate.
My stay was without incident and I recommend it as a middle priced very respectable Hotel that I will return to I am sure many times over.

Shanghai Riverview Hotel - good for the price
This hotel was just fine for the room tariff charged.
Probably 3 and 1/2 stars, reaching for 4.
Quite good location, about 250m metres south of the main Bund area, and a similar distance from the closest Metro station (Xiananmen).
45+ TV stations, but only two are in English.
I'd have no problem in reccomending it to others, and would certainly stay again myself.
HOtel location was excellent. Staff were very good However, there was a great language problem Very restricted to speaking English and very hard to get them to understand
The dinning rooms
breakfast; Excellent
Midday Menu Excellent
Evening Meal Very Poor
Local food excellent however, very limited to drinks (spirits and beer)
Great hotel, really clean room, however to book the river view room in the river view hotel I expected a more than a view of the new sky scraper next door. I won't be staying there again.
Convenient location, 15 minutes walk from nearest metro. But there is not much in the neighborhood. Hotel was nice and clean but the rooms are small and the mattresses were really hard!
Pleasant Hotel... very clean, sound service, and friendly. Super location and the price via Expedia was exceptional, given the location of the Hotel on the Bund. Walking distance to Waldorf Astoria and other achitecturaly fascinating art deco buildings. Close to local market, too.

Disliked: Staff & service
Desperate staff hard beds bad food
It's a shame that what is fundamentally a nice hotel was let down by poorly trained staff, with no English spoken, poor food, high prices for drinks and a really hard bed.
There are plenty of better places in shanghai, I suggest you try them first.
Our room had a great view even though we didn't book a river view room. Extensive buffet breakfast including a wide array of both chinese and western food, as well as eggs/omelettes cooked on request. Mini-bar and other services quite cheap for such a classy hotel. Only minor negative was the poor english ability of staff in the business centre / flight booking office. The hotel is a fair walk from the Bund but taxis are cheap and easy to get in Shanghai. Highly recommend this hotel.
Be prepared to be ignored at checkin and checkout if you are a foreigner. Room was awesome and new. They spoke ok English, but they were not considerate of their guests as they were doing construction in the hallway on my floor at 9am. Upon checkout I was getting processed but then a "local" came to checkout where they promptly stopped processing my checkout and processed the other guest from start to finish before completing my checkout. When I complained about being shoved aside the manager just laughed.
Sehr gutes Hotel, sehr zentral gelegen und mit tollem Blick auf den Bund.

Not bad, but nothing particularly good either
The hotel is decent enough, and service is fine. With the exception of a bed that felt more like a block of wood (Chinese beds are hard, but this was hard even for a Chinese bed), the room was perfectly comfortable and clean.
The location of the hotel was the main issue for me. It's close to the old part of Shanghai (= nice), but it's at the far end of that part. There's no handy subway nearby, and the surroundings of the hotel itself are pretty drab. The Bund is a very boring 15-min walk away. Cabbies had difficulty finding the address.
Not much wrong with the hotel (might be fine for business travelers, or if you plan to take cabs anyway), but next time I'd stay in a nicer or better connected part of Shanghai.
部屋と写真は全然違います。
ホテルの周りになにもないです。
ベットは硬かった。
これはホテルではない、サービスアパートだ!
The room is quite different from the picture image.
There is nothing around the hotel (and it's gonna be very difficult to get a cab in a raining day)
Bed is as hard as a rock...
Honestly speaking, this is more like a service apartment rather than a hotel....
And I saw no river from my river view room.........
Quite a dispiontment....
房間和照片差很大。
附近沒東西。
床很硬。
這應該不是酒店,是酒店式服務公寓。
河景房也看不到河。
非常失望。
