Head to the small alpine village of Selva di Val Gardena for sporting adventures and outdoor activities throughout the year. Ski, sleigh and snowboard down hundreds of miles of slopes, hike through nature parks and meadows and go climbing in the Dolomites mountain range. There are activities here for all age groups.
Selva di Val Gardena sits at 5,128 feet (1,563 metres) above sea level and is surrounded by mountains. Stay in a ski resort during the winter and take part in a wide range of snow based pursuits. They include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding. There are approximately 311 miles (500 kilometres) of slopes with runs for all abilities. The ski season typically lasts from December to April.
If you are new to the slopes, sign up to a skiing or snowboarding class at one of the ski schools. If there are children in your party, treat them to a day of activities at Funpark Gardena. The numerous playgrounds throughout the area will also keep them entertained for hours at a time.
The fun and adventures don’t stop once the snow has melted. Rent a bike and cycle through the terrain. Hike through the forests and mountain pastures of the Puez-Odle-Rasciesa Nature Reserve and go on a guided walk through the Dolomites. There are routes for all ability levels and guides can be booked locally.
Climbing enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with numerous routes in the area. Experienced climbers might want to try the Pössnecker Route or the Brigata Tridentina route, while beginners can tackle the Selva di Val Gardena’s climbing walls.
At night, socialize in the village’s bars and restaurants and move onto a club if you want to party the night away.
You can reach Selva di Val Gardena by flying into Bolzano Airport, about 25 miles (40 kilometres) away. Other ways into this summer and winter playground, include direct trains from cities in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
