Schwaig, first mentioned in records in 1360, has existed within its current city limits since the year 1976. It lies on the eastern border of Nuremberg, has a population of approximately 8,400 and consists of three districts. While on your city trip to Schwaig, be sure to visit the Schwaig Castle. Also plan on visiting the northern district of Behringersdorf with the Maria Magdalena Church from the year 1439 and the Baroque castle of the patrician family Tucher from the 18th century while on your mini-break. The view of the village of Malmsbach on the left bank of the Pegnitz River impresses with its moated castle from the 14th century.
The best way to get to know the city and its surroundings is a hike on the circular route Pegnitztal-Rundweg. Start your 4-mile trip in the parking lot of the public swimming pool. You will be led along the idyllic river Pegnitz on a route through protected nature which connects the different districts. There is a playground along the way for visitors of all generations to find their inner child. Even people of advanced age can take advantage of an exercise circuit and sharpen their sense of balance.
The Schwaiger Schloss castle is located somewhat off the main path. However, the small detour to the manor dating back to the 16th century is fully worth it. The building with its three stories and its stair tower have become an impressive setting for many events. The yearly castle festival in particular draws a number of guests.
Having arrived back at the starting point, make a visit to the public indoor and outdoor pool “Pegnitzaue”. On the inside, a 25-yard pool, a children’s paddling pool and a relaxation area in the winter garden await. The outside pool impresses with a white water canal, massage jets and water beds. A walk through the Kneipp water-treading basin will rejuvenate your body. A children’s pool and a playground are available for the smallest guests to enjoy while on a short trip to Schwaig.
Especially active guests will enjoy a visit to the Nordic Walking Park Schwaig. Four circular routes of various distances and degrees of difficulty will help you keep fit. They are connected with the Nuremberg Tierpark routes and offer you more than 30 miles of signposted paths altogether.
While on a city trip to Schwaig, be sure to also take a trip to Albrecht Duerer’s city of Nuremberg. Schwaig is very well-connected to the public transport network of the city so that you can travel to the centre of this historical city within just a few minutes.
