The hotel had wonderful grounds, maintained very well by a gardener with a beautiful swimming pool. However while the bedroom was very large, it felt very much style over substance.
A very tired shower which was almost too painful to use. Toilet rolls which weren't replaced. There was no wardrobe or mirror in the bedroom which is a very basic ask at that price. There was also a very wide window which let light in the minute the sun came up. For a very light sleeper, this proved really irritating.
On 2 separate mornings, the cleaners popped their heads round the door to check if I was still there. This was at 8.30am! The first time, I had to cover up as I was still in bed with no clothes on. Quite embarrassing! The owner did apologise(thank you), but on checking out there was another issue. He tried charging me 6 nights, although I'd paid for 5 before arriving.
I told him I'd paid but he didn't believe me (!) and kept trying to tell me I hadnt paid. In my eyes, the customer is always right, especially when you're charging rates as he was. I had to show him our previous conversation as proof. His response was "oh, I forgot". I felt it was his job to know, and if he had forgotten, apologise. I ended up second guessing myself even though I knew I was right.
He helped me down with my bags but didnt bother saying bye.
Its a shame as the grounds are lovely and the whole thing could be wonderful but his attitude and lack of decent service tarnished it.
