Gaze across Lake Garda from this picturesque town, where summer hiking and winter skiing on Monte Baldo await and autumn is filled with chestnut-inspired cuisine.

San Zeno di Montagna is known locally as “the balcony overlooking the lake.” This picturesque town is poised at 2,230 feet (680 meters) above sea level, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Garda. Inhale the fresh air and appreciate the natural beauty surrounding the town. Set off on excursions into the rolling countryside or enjoy the quiet tranquility throughout the town.

Whether you choose to visit in summer or winter, San Zeno di Montagna offers a wealth of outdoor activities. In the warmer spring to autumn months, trek or mountain bike through the lower pine-forested slopes of Monte Baldo, which are covered in scenic trails. Look for orchids, chestnut trees and deer. For something more thrilling, try rock climbing, paragliding and hang gliding.

Ride on the Costabella Cable Car, which begins in nearby Prada, a good way to save your legs and still enjoy the magnificent views. In winter, it acts as a ski lift, carrying skiers to the higher snow-covered slopes.

Back in town, visit the Monday Weekly Market. Buy fresh produce sourced from the lush landscape and try traditional foods from neighboring regions. Purchase crafts and souvenirs too.

Take the children for a fun-filled excursion to Jungle Adventure Park. Swing through the trees, challenge yourself and have a fun day on the many trails of varying difficulty.

The town is known for its exquisite food. Dine at restaurants using locally sourced seasonal ingredients, especially the area’s famous chestnuts. October’s Festa del Marrone di San Zeno (chestnut festival) and the Fiera di San Michele both feature rural delicacies.

San Zeno di Montagna is just 24 miles (38 kilometers) from Verona’s international airport. From there public transportation and private shuttles come directly to the town. You’ll find plenty to do in the town itself and the immediate vicinity on foot or by bicycle. Rent a car to explore the surrounding area.
