Once an easygoing Gallurian fishing port, today San Teodoro is a quintessential Sardinian seaside resort blessed with natural wonders. The glistening Tyrrhenian Sea laps at gorgeous white-sand beaches. Stylish boutiques, bars and restaurants line the meandering streets of the town center while a countryside of granite hills, lakes, orchards and waterfalls invite you to discover the quieter side of San Teodoro.
Follow the sun-kissed locals and vacationers to La Cinta Beach, a 2-mile (3.2-kilometer) long bay popular among kite surfers and windsurfers. The sugar-like sand and perfect turquoise waters of Cala Brandinchi has earned it the nickname of “Little Tahiti.” Isuledda Beach and Lu Impostu evoke more images of Caribbean islands. Join a day cruise to the islands of Isola Molara and Isola Tavolara from nearby Porto San Paolo.
Wildlife enthusiasts are in for a treat at Stagno di San Teodoro, a natural lagoon set behind La Cinta. Spot pink flamingos and black-winged stilts while strolling along the lagoon’s marked trail. Bike or walk the hilly country roads that surround the village of Alà dei Sardi. Visit the Su Fossu Malu Waterfall and enjoy trekking in the foothills of Monte Nieddu.
In the town center, the elegant Church of San Teodoro dominates Piazza di Gallura. Feast on Sardinian delicacies such as zuppa Gallurese, a hearty meal of sliced bread, meat broth and pecorino cheese. A glass of Vermentino di Gallura white wine is the perfect accompaniment to any meal. Don’t miss the Museo delle Civiltà del Mare, home to a collection of archaeological objects that date from 350 B.C. to the Middle Ages.
Located in Sardinia’s Province of Olbia-Tempio, San Teodoro is a 25-minute drive from Olbia, from where ferries connect with mainland Italy. Cagliari Elmas Airport is 155 miles (250 kilometers) to the south.
