"Kula Maya is definitely the highlight of San Marcos, having the most excellent views and a friendly staff. The town is very charming and much more enjoyable than some of the busier towns on other parts of the lake. The restaurant has great food and a nice high-end bar selection. "I had a lovely stay here. As a single women traveling alone I felt very safe at this location. It was close enough to walk into the city for meals, shopping, and exploring. The boat dock is also within walking distance if you want to explore other towns. I was served coffee and breakfast every morning on the dock which was delicious. "Beautiful property, great location and friendly staff. Definitely a great recommendation for a unique stay for those looking for "adventure travel" to Lake Atitlán that want peace and quiet. If you are more accustomed to bougie traveling you might want to consider more traditional hotel as you do need to prepare for a little walking up the stairs to your room and no heat when it can get cold in November. Very picturesque and highly recommended."

"Only there for a night. The host/manager could have done a better job explaining how to get there, instead of simply suggesting to use Waze maps! Also, they are building a new house at the bottom of the property, so it's a little dangerous having to walk thru a construction site to get to the beach down below. "Our room was a fabulous yurt that had gorgeous view of Lake Atitlan and the volcanoes there. The grounds had lovely plants and flowers. There was no outlet to the lake but a pool instead. This was not totally clear in the readings I did about the property. They had a wonderful bar and restaurant for breakfast, snacks and dinner. Santa Catarina is a short Tuk Tuk drive away or you can walk about 15 minutes like we did. "

Adorable, cozy stay.

"Wonderful time in this cabin. It had amazing views and was quiet. The wifi was perfect for working and it was such a relaxing place to rest for a few days. It's about a 30 minute walk to town, but there are a few restaurants and shops along the way. The people are really friendly too. "

"Absolutely loved this place. So so cute, clean, quiet and relaxing. The staff is so accommodating and sweet, they were always asking if they could get me anything. Food is SO GOOD. Best juices I have ever had in my life. The stairs around the property are killer but it’s worth it for the views, quality and price. Can’t wait to come back!"

"Very charming hotel overlooking the lake. Lovely landscaping made for beautiful outdoor spaces to lie in a hammock, sit by the water, etc. Our room was clean and nice, but the bathroom and sheets could have been better. Breakfast was good - you get some options of traditional Guatemalan, more American style, pancakes, yogurt/granola etc. It is built into the hillside over the lake so there is some walking up and down to get around, but the staff kindly helped us with our luggage. No TVs in our room so would recommend bringing books / a deck of cards. We enjoyed using the free kayaks but were a little disappointed the hot tub was an additional charge. The area is in between San Juan and San Pedro - it's an easy walk into San Juan by a path down by the water, and easy to walk into San Pedro too but it's along a main road without sidewalks. Tuktuks are cheap and easy ways to get around, as are water taxis."
