Drop a fishing line, spot seabirds or stroll to the end of this picturesque pier and dangle your feet from the edge as you look out over St. Simons Sound.

St. Simons Island Pier is an enchanting spot to sit and enjoy the scenery or participate in the daily action. Crowning the Pier Village on the southern tip of St. Simons Island, the spot is a hive of activity. Watch locals fishing or crabbing along the pier’s edge. Stroll out onto the pier and look across the Atlantic Ocean waters to see marine creatures breaching the surface. Spot ships cruising into the Port of Brunswick and look up at circling seabirds.

Throughout the day, watch locals unloading fishing and crabbing gear and hoping for a bite. Trout, redfish, flounder, crabs and occasional sharks are hauled onto the pier for sizing. Tray tables and water hoses along the pier’s railings make preparing bait and cleaning the catch easy. Take a seat at one of the benches and enjoy the scene or try your luck at casting a line. The bait and tackle shop in the Pier Village has plenty of fishing supplies, as well as the permits necessary for fishing here.

Where there’s a free feed of fish, seabirds come for their share. Check out the storks and gulls soaring and circling around the pier. Look south toward Jekyll Island and you might see dolphins feeding alone the coastline. St. Simons Sound is visited by North Atlantic right whales in the wintertime. These majestic creatures pass the sound between December and March on their way to the calving waters farther south along the eastern United States.

The pier stretches out into the channel that snakes between St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island and the Port of Brunswick. Look for enormous cargo ships bringing automobiles into the port.

Take an evening stroll on the pier after dining in the Pier Village. The pier is the perfect spot to enjoy an ice cream accompanied by sunset views. On the waterfront, you’ll find Neptune Park, the Georgia Casino and a wide variety of restaurants and shops.

St. Simons Island Pier is on the southern tip of the island. Find parking at the Pier Village. Visit the pier for free any time of day.
