The city of Roosendaal is in the west of the province of North Brabant between Bergen op Zoom and Breda. It's a great place to get a feel for the culture and nature in and around Roosendaal, people watch from a sidewalk café and shop.
Roosendaal has a long history that goes hand in hand with Breda. But it wasn't until the middle of the 19th century when the railway was built that Roosendaal got its urban character. Today Roosendaal is a modern city with a rural character.
There's nothing better than strolling around town and relaxing at one of the many sidewalk cafés on the market square. The Hooihuis, voted one of the Netherlands' best outdoor cafés in 2016, is located in recreation park De Stok.
There are many places to shop, but the covered shopping mall De Passage close to Nieuwe Markt and Rosa Fashion Outlet south of De Stok are the best.
Take in some popular culture at the Nationaal Voetbalmuseum, an interactive museum where you can comment on legendary matches and test your kicking skills! Hire a bicycle and head out to green spaces such as Wouwse Plantage and Rucphense Bossen.
If you're looking for more of a big city atmosphere, Breda is a hop, skip and a jump away by bus or train. Antwerp is also easy to reach by train (30 minutes).
Roosendaal is a connecting station for trains to Amsterdam (1.5 hours) and Brussels, and you can catch buses that will take you into town or to places such as Bergen op Zoom and Breda. You can also take the train to Breda (20 minutes).
If you're travelling by car, you can park it at the park and ride (P+R) parking lot at the station. The train station is just outside the city centre.
